Cine-Teatro São Pedro de Alcanena
The Matters of Now conversations are gatherings designed for multiple voices, co-curated with young people from the Alcanena and Minde region, based on their concerns, interests, and urgencies. They are open, critical, and affective conversations that seek to create space for contemporary thought and collective debate on issues that affect us today — in our bodies, our homes, our schools, our rivers, and in the media.
#5 How to address the right to gender identity and expression as a family?
with Manuela Ferreira, AMPLOS
The right to be yourself begins at home. This talk invites us to listen with openness and empathy to the challenges, fears, and possibilities that arise when supporting the gender identity and expression of children and young people. What does it truly mean to stand beside a child or teenager as they navigate their journey of self-discovery? Through dialogue, information, and empathy, we will reflect on how families can become allies in shaping a world that is fairer, kinder, and freer for all.
In 2025, these conversations take place across five distinct moments, each dedicated to a key question of our time. In partnership with Sociedade Musical Mindense, we add a symbolic conversation to mark the 110th anniversary of this important society, highlighting the value of the collective.
Manuela Ferreira, human rights activist, is a member of AMPLOS (Association of Mothers and Fathers for Freedom of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) since 2010, member of the board between March 2013 and May 2023, where she served as vice president (6 years) and president (4 years).
